OMG... Staged? How Can They?

So the Bush administration sets up this big shin-dig satellite show with the Commander In Chief (that's President Bush) and troops in Iraq. The feed goes to the networks, and the networks see the warm up to the show. During the warm up the troops are coached on their responses.

Somehow this is horrible to the media. When just a few years ago there was a man walking on a desolate beach who
  • "happened"
  • to find stones and arranged them in a cross. The media thought it was a touching and fantastic picture. That was Omaha beach in Normandy. Here's a picture of Omaha Beach, see any smooth river stones on that sand?

Here is another picture from the same event at Omaha Beach, does anyone think this American warship was accidently positioned directly behind the podium as Clinton spoke? Duh!

Having had PR training I can tell you that the role of the PR department is to manage what the media sees with the goal of positive influence on public perception. If the networks were so against this interview then THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE CARRIED IT.

My primary gripe here is that my party does NOT do a good job of handling the media. I've had a few extreme lefties tell me the media is in Bush's pocket. Well that's a pretty stupid thing to say when you lay these two staged events side by side and see how they are addressed by commentators.
